Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Venom Actor Has Begun Motion Capture

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from developer Insomniac Games confirmed in the reveal trailer that Venom will be a central figure in the game. Additionally, he will also be voiced by Candyman actor Tony Todd. In a recent tweet, Todd stated that he’s now doing motion capture for an unspecified role, though it’s likely for the upcoming sequel.

Todd took to social media to post “Early riser. #Mocap time” recently, leading many to believe that he will also provide motion capture for Venom in addition to his voice work. While it’s not exactly confirmed that this motion capture session is for the game, it’s easy to make the connection to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as the actor isn’t currently involved in any other motion capture work that we know of.

Insomniac Games’ head of franchise strategy Ryan Schneider expressed his excitement working with Todd in a blog post made after the game’s announcement, stating:

“We’re so happy to announce that Tony Todd (of Candyman fame) will be voicing the symbiote-fuelled Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

We’re also delighted to welcome back Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter, who will reprise their roles as Peter and Miles respectively. We’ve been fortunate to work with so many incredibly talented actors in our Spider-Man games, and Tony has been such a wonderful addition to the cast.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man released in 2018 to critical and commercial success, with some outlets rating it among the PS4’s best exclusives. The game also received a standalone spin-off in 2020’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which focused on new Spider-Man Miles as he is faced with protecting the city on his own.

Sony purchased Insomniac Games back in February 2020 for $229 million, securing their IPs as PlayStation exclusives. These now include Ratchet & Clank and Marvel’s Spider-Man, among other franchises.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently in development exclusively for PS5 and is scheduled to release in 2023.
