Mortal Kombat 12 Reportedly Has Massive Fighter Roster

Leaks began appearing online about the next Mortal Kombat game for the past few months now, and most of them tell the same story. According to a new leak, developer NetherRealm Studios is planning a massive fighter roster for the next title (which may double as Mortal Kombat 12). It apparently includes characters taken from both the reboot (MK9) and Mortal Kombat X.

The leak for the next Mortal Kombat game suggests that it will be a “legacy” title of sorts, basically acting as a re-release of Mortal Kombat 11 but with big additions. Apparently, the next game will feature a massive roster of 50 combatants featuring characters taken from the last three games in the series.

Before we get too excited, it’s worth noting that the leak originates from 4chan, which is a less-than-reputable source for leaks and rumours as there’s no way to verify anonymous posters. However, these claims were already made as far back as September by other sources, so there might be an ounce of credibility here.

Since this technically isn’t an entirely new Mortal Kombat, it’s the closest thing we’ll get to a “new” experience in the series.  The last time a character roster was this massive in the series was Mortal Kombat Armageddon on the PlayStation 2, which featured 62 fighters. Judging by the sounds of the new leaks though, characters from previous games will be integrated into the upgraded engine that Mortal Kombat 11 runs on. Of course, this also potentially means absent characters like Smoke and Takeda will finally make a return. It’s unknown if the bolstered fighter roster will also feature those games’ DLC characters which includes Alien, Leatherface, Jason Voorhees, Kratos, Freddy Krueger and many more.

As with all rumours, take this with a massive grain of salt for now. If these leaks are accurate, then Mortal Kombat 12 could be announced at The Game Awards this week. It’s also expected to arrive on consoles and PC.
