Netflix’s BioShock Movie Director Teases ‘New Little Twists’

Francis Lawrence, the director behind the upcoming live-action BioShock movie in production at Netflix, has given fans a little update about the project. While Lawrence recently wrapped up filming The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, he still has his eye set on the BioShock movie. A script is complete, according to the director, and it may contain a few “new little twists” for die-hard fans of the games.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Lawrence spoke a bit about the upcoming BioShock movie, though most of his attention was on promoting The Hunger Games first. However, he did offer a nice update on the live-action adaptation of the game. As most fans already know, it will be a faithful adaptation of the first critically acclaimed BioShock game set in the underwater utopia of Rapture. Lawrence also stated that he has “a really good script” that’s ready to go.

GamesRadar pressed him for more news on the BioShock movie, particularly any new additions to the project, to which he replied:

“Oh, we have some new little bits in there, yes. I mean, the truth is it’s game one, so we’re being very true to a lot of it, right? So, we’re not breaking canon in any way. But we do have some new little twists that will surprise fans, but that all fit in. We have a really good script, I’m really excited about it.”

For the most part, it sounds like Lawrence wants to make an adaptation that’s “true” to the first game for the movie, implying that should it be successful, we could potentially look at the next two games, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite, adapted into movies too at Netflix, though that’s just speculation on our part.

Francis Lawrence is also known for directing I Am Legend, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Constantine.
