Overwatch 2 Beta Gets Launch Date for Consoles and PC

Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed a launch date for the Overwatch 2 beta for consoles and PC, and it’s coming very soon. The company announced that players will be able to access the beta on 28 June if you own a PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC or Nintendo Switch. Players will get the chance to play as the new hero Junker Queen as well as on one of the new maps.

At the recent Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, Blizzard confirmed that Overwatch 2 will be entering early access on 4 October as a free-to-play title. It will now feature a 5v5 setup as opposed to the first game’s 6v6 and will also include cross-play across all major platforms.

Blizzard announced a digital livestream for Overwatch 2 set to take place on 16 June at 6PM BST / 10AM PT / 7PM SAST. Fans can expect to get more updates on the sequel’s live service model plans, more details on Junker Queen and the upcoming closed beta test. Players will also be able to sign up for the beta test on 16 June, so keep an eye out.

Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard, released a short statement on Sunday following the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase:

“We can’t wait to roll out the beginning of the Overwatch 2 experience on October 4 and introduce an exciting new competitive vision, featuring amazing new content and a reimagining of the iconic heroes, maps, and gameplay that made the original game so compelling.

This is the beginning of an always-on and always-evolving era for the franchise, and a recommitment to serving players with frequent and substantial updates planned well into the future.”

Overwatch 2 is currently in development for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch and is set to launch in early access on 4 October 2022.
