Samsung today revealed and launched the brand new Samsung Galaxy A80 range in South Africa. The phones are said to be the “mid-range” lineup compared to the Galaxy S10 series but the devices do pack quite a punch that deliver some stunning displays and powerful performance.
One thing to take home about the range is they all feature some fantastic displays. Both the A70 and A80 pack a 6.7 super AMOLED display with the A70 making use of Samsung’s Infinity U technology at a 1080×2400 resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The Samsung Galaxy A70 packs 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and the option to upgrade storage up to 512GB through a MicroSD.
The camera system on the Samsung Galaxy A70 offers a triple-lens back camera with a 32MP main sensor, 8MP secondary sensor and a 5MP triple sensor. There is also a 32MP front-facing camera. The Galaxy A70 also packs a 4,500mAh battery, Samsung Pay, in-display fingerprint scanner and back-to-back wireless charging found in the Galaxy S10 series.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 is the real scene-stealer out of the A series range especially thanks to its new rotating camera system. The device is a completely bezel-free phone with a 6.7-inch display and a high screen-to-body-ratio of 85.8%. This is due to the fact that there is no camera on the front, rather it is hidden away until you slide up the screen and it rotates the back triple-lens camera system to face you. So the back camera is also the front camera.
The Galaxy A80 combines a 48-megapixel f/2.0 camera with an ultrawide (123-degree) 8-megapixel camera and a 3D depth sensor. Software-wise, that 3D Depth camera adds Live Focus videos, scanning what the cameras see for both measurement and depth.
The Samsung Galaxy A70 will be available in late April in South Africa and the Galaxy A80 will be available in June. Samsung says the new A series will start at R1,299 for the new A50 ending with the new Samsung Galaxy A80 that will retail in SA for R12,999.
Samsung is confident that the local network providers will deliver competitive network packages from R99pm (A50) all the way up to R599pm (A80).
