Sonic Heroes Remake Reportedly in Development

A remake of Sonic Heroes, the 2003 platformer developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega, is reportedly in development. The remake will apparently be built in Unreal Engine 5 which means we can expect updated visuals and gameplay to this two decade-old title.

The rumour originates from reliable leaker Midori, who has been accurate with her leaks regarding Sega and Atlus in the past. According to the leaker, a remake of Sonic Heroes in development. She responded to a fan confirming a report about the remake being built in Unreal Engine 5, though mentioned that there weren’t any Sonic Adventure remakes in the works. As with all rumours and reports, take this with a pinch of salt for now until we get confirmation from Sega.

Next to Sonic Adventure, Sonic Heroes is a favourite among the fanbase. It’s often praised for being one of the better 3D platformers in the franchise, gathering a cult following over the decades. Sonic Heroes originally launched on PS2, Xbox, GameCube and PC though it hasn’t seen a remaster or current-gen port since.

“Four separate teams set off on an adventure with different goals but the same target; Dr. Eggman. Along the way, they slowly begin to realize that things aren’t exactly what they seem,” reads the official description for the game.

Fans can also look forward to Sonic X Shadow Generations, a new Sonic collection featuring a brand new story for Shadow. Players will also get to play as classic or modern Sonic in a full remaster of Sonic Generations.

We reviewed last year’s Sonic Superstars and had this to say:

“Sonic Superstars isn’t the worst Sonic game around. If you love the series, getting through the campaign twice and finishing off the final challenge is enjoyable. But I don’t think its multiplayer and co-op component is a selling point here. In fact, the game is just better alone which defeats the whole point of this reimagined game.”
