Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is Shutting Down

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt, the free-to-play battle royale, is shutting down development only one year after it launched. The game originally launched in April 2022 for PS5 and PC, pitting 48 vampire players against each other using swords, guns and anything they can find to come out as the last vampire standing. Despite development ending, the studio assured players that servers will remain online.

Yesterday, developer Sharkmob released a statement confirming that it’s ending the development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt due to not being able to attract enough players. In-game monetisation will also be turned off. However, Bloodhunt‘s servers will apparently remain active for the foreseeable future. Players can then use an in-game voting system in order to keep the game alive.

Sharkmob’s statement on Bloodhunt‘s development ending reads:

“Ever since launch, we have been on a journey to excite and delight our players, however, while we have an amazing and very engaged community, we haven’t been able to reach the critical mass needed to sustain development. This has led us to the decision to stop further development of Bloodhunt. With that said, Bloodhunt servers will stay up and the game will remain available to play. Our aim is to keep the servers going for as long as we have an active player base and community.”

The developer concluded by stating in-game purchases will be turned off on 26 September. Before then, the studio is making it easier for players to earn in-game tokens more easily before the cut-off date:

“We are also looking at turning off real currency purchasing on September 26th. Before this happens, we will implement a way to earn in-game tokens more easily so players can continue to play and unlock cosmetics beyond this date. While we are as sad as you are that Bloodhunt development has now come to an end, please know that this was a difficult decision to make, and we take this experience with us in the development of coming games.”

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is available to download on PS5 and PC.
