Microsoft has officially announced the Xbox Game Pass Friends and Family plan after some leaks and rumours. This allows both family and friends to share an Xbox Game Pass subscription. The service is currently only limited to players in Ireland and Colombia, but Xbox hasn’t announced plans to roll it out in other regions yet.
According to the service’s FAQ, Xbox Game Pass Friends and Family allows all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to share their subscription with up to four other players. “With the Friends & Family plan, all five members enjoy the benefits of Game Pass Ultimate, with their own unique access to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate games, content, and benefits, regardless of what device they play on,” said Xbox in a statement.

“All the people you invite can play at the same time – you can even play together in the same game. Plus, you can include friends and family outside your household,” Xbox added.
This will be a separate subscription next to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Players in Ireland and Colombia who wish to use Xbox Game Pass Friends and Family must pay a little extra. Since it hasn’t been released in other countries yet, no exact pricing can be confirmed. However, it will cost €21.99 per month in Ireland (as opposed to €12.99 per month for a regular Game Pass Ultimate subscription).
Given that the service is meant to accommodate up to five users at a time, it still works out cheaper than paying for five individual Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions. The only person charged in this case would be the primary account holder.
Additionally, those currently subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can convert it to a Friends and Family subscription. For every month remaining of Game Pass Ultimate, they’ll get 18 days of Friends and Family. The exact conversion for each tier of subscription is as follows:
- 30 days Xbox Game Pass Ultimate = 18 days Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family
- 30 days Xbox Game Pass (Console) = 12 days Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family
- 30 days PC Game Pass = 12 days Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family
- 30 days Xbox Live Gold = 12 days Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family
- 30 days EA Play = 6 days Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family
