Final Fantasy XVI Trailer Explores The World of Valisthea

Square Enix released a brand new trailer for its upcoming action-RPG, Final Fantasy XVI, over the weekend which explores the game’s world of Valisthea and its various biomes. With the game just a couple of months out from launch, developer Creative Business Unit III and producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida are making the final adjustments before ramping up the marketing. This first teaser offers us a glimpse into the varied lands of its fantasy kingdom.

The world of Valisthea in Final Fantasy XVI is a gorgeous, diverse setting filled with towering kingdoms, high mountaintops, lush jungle areas, waterfalls, lagoons, bubbling lava caverns, lavish castles and so much more. The new entry also makes a return to Final Fantasy’s medieval-inspired roots with a lot of emphasis placed on its fittingly old-school medieval fantasy world design which fans have welcomed with open arms.

The 2-minute trailer recently debuted at Square Enix’s PAX East panel presentation but plays out like a short showreel of locations rather than anything exciting in the action department. Nonetheless, it’s a refreshing, well-paced exploration of Valisthea that ensures we’ll be fully immersed in its grand, awe-inspiring world.

Thankfully, players won’t have to traverse Valisthea in a full open-world. Yoshida reiterated in the past that Final Fantasy XVI will not feature an open-world like its predecessor, Final Fantasy XV. Instead, the world and exploration will be divided into large, semi-open world zones but the campaign will mostly be a linear experience from beginning to end. There’s still room for players to explore the zones, though, as this latest trailer teases that each part of the map will be massive.

In recent news, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy XVI‘s main campaign will take around 35 hours to beat but that could be doubled to 70 or 80 hours if you’re planning on exploring everything that the game has to offer.

Final Fantasy XVI launches on 22 June 2023 for PS5. Check out the latest trailer below:
