Forspoken Square Enix Final Fantasy XVI Delay 2022

Forspoken Shows Off ‘Magic Parkour’ in Latest Gameplay

Forspoken, the upcoming open-world action-RPG from Square Enix and Luminous Productions, has received a new gameplay video providing a deep dive into the game’s Magic Parkour. Since players will traverse the world on foot most of the time, it will require some speed and agility, which is where the magic system helps protagonist Frey Holland navigate the terrain in a variety of ways.

The deep dive for Forspoken‘s ‘Magic Parkour’ system starts off with players mastering Flow, which dictates how fast Frey can travel on land. We then shift to Shimmy, a means to accelerate rapidly by kicking off the ground and covering larger distances. Then there’s Float, which conjures a magic bubble that allows Frey to land safely from extreme heights. Glide conjures a magical surfboard that lets her travel across bodies of water.

Zip lets Frey attach a zipline to the nearest object and propel herself out of harm’s way, especially useful in combat scenarios. It’s also a way to assist in platforming sections. Soaring is exactly what is sounds like, letting her soar higher vertically. Finally, there’s Scale, which boost-jumps Frey off the ground to ascend higher and avoid head-on attacks in combat.

So far, the traversal in Forspoken is looking pretty entertaining and might have potential. Square Enix provided a breakdown of the Magic Parkour gameplay in the video’s description, reading:

“Using her newfound magical abilities, Frey is able to nimbly traverse the treacherous terrain of Athia and explore her strange new surroundings. This Magic Parkour also comes in handy when she comes toe-to-toe with the multitude of enemies lurking in the corrupted landscape of the Break. Hit the ground running in this overview of the Magic Parkour system in Forspoken.”

Forspoken releases on 24 January 2023 for PS5 and PC. Check out the latest gameplay below.
