Two weeks after launch, Helldivers 2 might actually be playable now after its server capacity was increased this morning from 450,000 to 700,000.
While players have been enjoying their time in the game, the Helldivers 2 servers have been the biggest enemy to date. Since launch, the servers have struggled to keep up with the player demand.
So much so that Arrowhead Game Studios increased the capacity up to 600,000 a week after launch but it resulted in stability problems. The studio was then forced to decrease this back down to 450,000 while they worked on optimizing the backend code to accommodate the higher-capacity server.
Yesterday, the studio released an update for Helldivers 2 on both PC and PS5 which came with new bug fixes, a new timeout for idle players and prepped the game for the server boost. In the early hours of this morning, this server capacity increase went live.
According to Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt, the studio still has some work to do in order to improve the general experience in Helldivers 2. He says the team will work on more improvements to ensure gamers can play this weekend without any issues.

Helldivers 2 reached a new all-time peak on Steam this week as it surpassed 450k players. With the new server increase, let’s hope more players jump into the fight. We also hope the general Steam User Review score changes now too. This week, the game was review bombed by angry gamers after they finally got fed up with all the various server hiccups that plagued the game.
