Pentiment launched last week for PS5 marking the first of many once-Xbox exclusive games to arrive on the rival platform. In the coming weeks, PS5 players will also get to play Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded. However, it seems the PS5 version of Pentiment runs much better than the Xbox version and when I say “much better” I mean at 120FPS compared to 60FPS on Xbox.
According to performance breakdowns, Pentiment on PS5 runs at 120FPS out of the box. The game has double the frame rate compared to the Xbox version which is capped at 60FPS. Keep in mind that Pentiment launched on Xbox back in November 2022 and over a year later, still runs at 60FPS.
Game Director Josh Sawyer claims that the game is actually meant to run at 120FPS on Xbox too. However, the feature was disabled due to a bug. A bug, which since its launch back in November 2022, hasn’t been fixed.
The good news is that this bug is going to be fixed very soon. In the next patch according to Sawyer. Why it took so long to get to this point isn’t clear. Users are currently joking around saying that the Xbox version of the game was actually the beta test and the PS5 launch marks the game’s official version 1.0 release. This makes sense given how Pentiment launched with the correct frame rate on PS5 and the Xbox version, for some reason, still doesn’t have it.
120fps will be enabled for XBOX in the next patch. It being disabled is just a bug.
