Netflix’s One Piece Officially Renewed For Season 2

Netflix has officially renewed the live-action One Piece show for a second season. The first season debuted last month and quickly rose Netflix’s charts in over 80 countries around the world as well as earning great reviews. After weeks of speculation about whether or not the streaming service would greenlight season 2, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed (through transponder snail) that Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates will continue their adventure for another season.

Oda revealed the news in a recent video confirming that the live-action One Piece will have a second season, though it may take some time to arrive. Additionally, Oda also revealed that on this leg of the journey, the Straw Hats will need to recruit a doctor which means Tony Tony Chopper will be in the next season. Beyond that, there aren’t many details about how much content season 2 will cover but most suspect that it will encompass the events of Loguetown to Alabasta from the manga.

Shortly before being renewed for a second season, Netflix producers Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements talked about their plans for adapting the One Piece source material over multiple seasons. The producers are aiming for at least six seasons but that could stretch to 12 or more if they want to cover the manga’s notoriously long story. That also depends if the show continues to be a success between each season and draw in high viewership numbers for Netflix.

According to Adelstein, the script for season 2 is already done so all that’s really left is to wait for the ongoing Hollywood actors and writers strikes to come to a resolution before production on the new season can commence.
