Nintendo has officially dated two anticipated Switch games. The company confirmed yesterday during the MAR10 Day celebrations that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will launch on 23 May this year while Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is set to launch on 27 June.
The announcements didn’t come as a surprise. Both games have been in development for some time now and were already confirmed back in 2023. Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, for example, was announced back in June 2023 and is a remaster of the Nintendo 3DS game, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door isn’t a remaster but instead is a direct remake of the classic GameCube game. The game is releasing on Nintendo Switch almost two decades after its debut on the original console. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is deemed as one of the greatest Paper Mario games of all time.
It sees Mario trying to rescue Princess Peach from a group of aliens called the X-Nauts. While there have been many Paper Mario games since Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the GameCube game was a cult classic.
During the MAR10 Day celebrations, Nintendo also announced that a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. Movie is also officially in the works. The film will launch on 3 April 2026. Nintendo hasn’t officially deemed this film as a “sequel”. However, the ending of the original 2023 movie did tease a possible future with Yoshi.
So you can look forward to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on 23 May and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD on 27 June.
