Sea of Thieves Tops PlayStation Pre-Order Charts

Sea of Thieves has topped PlayStation pre-order charts in the US after it was revealed that the former Xbox exclusive would be going multi-platform. The online pirate adventure game developed by Rare was released in 2018 for Xbox One and PC. It’s now officially heading to PS5.

As reported by Twitter/X user Benji-Sales, Sea of Thieves has topped the US PlayStation pre-order charts to become the #1 best-selling pre-order on the PlayStation Network. This is surprising considering that the game is over six years old yet still shows tremendous potential as a multi-platform title. This is also helped by Rare’s continued support of the game, which has since received great updates and expansions to flesh the gameplay, world and story out.

To put that into context, Sea of Thieves currently has more pre-orders than two anticipated upcoming PS5 exclusives: Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. It has also passed Dragon’s Dogma 2 on the pre-order chart.

Elsewhere, user LexGamerSA revealed that the game’s premium edition currently at #2 on the South African PlayStation pre-order charts behind Dragon’s Dogma 2:

Sea of Thieves is one of four former Xbox console exclusives planned to appear on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles alongside Grounded, Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. However, Sea of Thieves might have a longer shelf life for most players looking for a great pirate adventure title – especially after Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones failed to attract players.

You can pre-order Sea of Thieves on the PlayStation Store right now for just R749.00. Despite technically being an Xbox Game Pass title, the fact that even paid versions of the full game are still managing to sell confirms that PlayStation players will give Rare’s game a significant boost in popularity and player numbers.

Sea of Thieves hits PS5 on 30 April 2024.
