The Boy and The Heron Gets Digital Launch in June With 4K Blu-Ray Release in July

We already know that the award-winning The Boy and The Heron will arrive on HBO Max in the near future. Warner Bros. has signed a deal with Studio Ghibli to own exclusive streaming rights to the animated film but the company hasn’t revealed when this will happen. Thankfully, those of you who want to watch the film earlier can pick it up digitally in June with a physical 4K launch taking place in July.

The Boy and The Heron will launch digitally on 25 June. The film will be available to purchase across all major digital content services such as Apple TV, Google Play Movies and Amazon. Following that launch, Studio Ghibli is releasing a special edition 4K UHD Blu-Ray and DVD SteelBook version on 9 July.

The SteelBook Edition will cost $39. The studio says it is a combo edition and comes with both the 4K UHD Blu-Ray and DVD included. It also includes various extras such as interviews with the composer, producer and supervisor animator. There’s also an exclusive poster included in the box.
