The Last of Us PS5 Remake Reportedly Arrives Later This Year

Naughty Dog is reportedly working on multiple projects at the moment, and one of them is the previously rumoured PS5 remake of The Last of Us. According to reliable leaker Tom Henderson, Naughty Dog is planning to release the remake sometime in the second half of 2022. Other rumoured projects include a standalone multiplayer game based in The Last of Us universe.

According to Henderson, The Last of Us remake is expected to release in the second half of 2022, and is supposedly in development exclusively for PS5. There’s not much information regarding this remake, though it was apparently previously handled by an internal studio called The Visual Arts Service Group before being given back to Naughty Dog to complete its development.

Other rumoured projects include The Last of Us Part II Director’s Cut. The sequel has yet to receive a proper PS5 upgrade, and given Sony’s track record of releasing upgrades on PS5 via a “Director’s Cut” (see Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding), this makes sense. Finally, the third project rumoured to be in development is The Last of Us‘ standalone multiplayer project, though details are still quite scarce on either of these games.

In the meantime, Naughty Dog is set to release the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection later this month on 28 January, which upgrades both Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy for PS5. The collection will also hit PC at a later date.

As for when we can expect Naughty Dog to make an official announcement on The Last of Us PS5 remake, it’s anyone’s guess, though there might be a PlayStation event held sometime in the coming months that could host this reveal. This will also mark the second time that The Last of Us has been re-released as an upgrade, as the PS4 previously received The Last of Us Remastered which enhanced the PS3 version of the game.
