A video game adaptation of the popular Scream horror franchise is reportedly in the works under Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures developer Supermassive Games. The Scream franchise and its iconic villain Ghostface is no stranger to the gaming world, having already been featured in the asymmetric horror game, Dead by Daylight. However, a new report suggests that a new single-player game could be in development by acclaimed horror game studio.
The report originates from Twitter user TheTipster who is believed to be legitimate due to the word of other reliable sources that followed the leaker’s last account which focused on accurate movie leaks. The leaker claims that as far back as May, they’ve heard about a Scream video game being in development and potentially under Supermassive Games, best known for their interactive horror games which force players to make tough decisions that can drastically shape their experiences and potentially have characters die in the narrative.

Supermassive Games previously developed the acclaimed 2016 horror game Until Dawn, a series of anthology games called The Dark Pictures and 2022’s The Quarry. The studio’s style of game design could be a perfect fit for the Scream franchise, especially if it takes a pretty unique route of having the main character be Ghostface and must orchestrate the deaths of victims.
“The option to play as the killer would be cool too, I’ve mentioned it on a sub before years ago,” said one Reddit user. “Having to learn character traits and locations in order to stage their death, picking dialogue and fake alibi’s to throw the AI off and not be a suspect and building up a wacky motivation for killing in the first place.”
Another user replied, “An anti-Until Dawn where you straight up play the killer and have to engineer the horror film to your perfect design would be a fantastic fit with Scream, wow.”
Of course, Supermassive Games might play it safe and have a more traditional horror experience where you have to ensure every character’s survival and figure out who the killer is, so we’ll just have to wait and see if these reports turn out to be true. As with all reports and rumours, take it with a pinch of salt for now.
In other news, a datamine of Mortal Kombat 1 revealed that Ghostface might be added to the game as a potential DLC character. Other characters leaked in the datamine include Noob Saibot, Jade, Conan and many more.
