Baldur’s Gate 3 from developer Larian Studios recently launched on PC via Steam and GOG to some of the highest review scores of the year. That goodwill and critical acclaim has now directly translated to very strong sales for the CRPG as the Belgian Embassy has revealed that the game sold a massive 5.2 million copies on Steam alone. Thanks to high pre-order numbers on PS5, it’s also expected to have a massive release on Sony’s console next month.
The Belgian Embassy recently congratulated Larian Studios for selling 5.2 million copies of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam. Those numbers don’t take into account the game’s sales on GOG, which could elevate it to much higher sales. Additionally, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke confirmed shortly after the game’s release that around 2.5 million digital copies were sold during the early access period, meaning it likely sold over 2.7 million copies since its full release earlier this month.

Sales forecasts are looking quite strong for Baldur’s Gate 3‘s launch on PS5 on 6 September thanks to its critical success and good word of mouth from the community. While PS5 players will miss out on the highly anticipated Xbox and PC exclusive Starfield which launches on the same day, at least Baldur’s Gate 3 will be heading to PlayStation first as Larian Studios seemingly struggles to get the game’s co-op functional on Xbox Series S.
In related news, PS5 players can start preloading Baldur’s Gate 3 at these dates and times depending on the edition purchased. This also includes early access four days before its 6 September launch for those who pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe edition.
While the game is a mostly feature-complete experience, it lacks the ability for players to change their character’s appearances mid-game. Larian Studios addressed this issue and stated that it’s currently working on adding the feature at a later stage.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available on PC via Steam and GOG. It will launch on PS5 on 6 September 2023.
