Larian Studios has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will receive cross-save between PS5 and Xbox Series X/S when it launches on consoles. At the moment, the acclaimed RPG will release on PS5 in early September but the developer previously confirmed that it will launch on Xbox Series X/S this year, though no release date was mentioned. The good news is that players will be able to carry their saves over between platforms including PC.
Due to Microsoft’s parity clause for the Xbox Series S, Baldur’s Gate 3 was originally delayed on current-gen Xbox platforms to sometime next year. However, Larian Studios recently confirmed that it would be launching to Xbox Series X/S this year but the Series S version wouldn’t include split-screen co-op – a feature that the developer apparently struggled to get working properly on the less powerful hardware.

At the moment, Baldur’s Gate 3 will be a timed PS5 console exclusive until we get confirmation of a release date on Xbox Series X/S. Players will be glad to know that, thanks to Larian’s accounts system, the game will support cross-save between all platforms. This means that if you figure playing on a specific platform doesn’t suit your fancy, you can simply carry over your progress to another platform without losing any valuable time in the game.
Thanks to the massive success of the PC launch earlier this month, Baldur’s Gate 3 is also expected to have a massive PS5 launch on 6 September following a hike in pre-orders for the PlayStation version. It’s unknown if Xbox has struck a deal to get Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Game Pass, though according to recent reports, the first two Baldur’s Gate games are seemingly coming to the subscription service in the near future too.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available on PC with a PS5 release scheduled for 6 September 2023. An Xbox Series X/S release date hasn’t been announced yet.
