Disney+ is now available in South Africa and if you have taken the day off to watch your favourite shows then you’ll need to know how to get started. South Africans can now sign up for Disney+ starting at R119 per month or R1190 for a 12-month membership. If you do grab the annual membership, you actually only pay for 10 months but you get 12 instead.
You can also upgrade your account at any time. If you pay for one month at R119 and decide you love it and want to get a 12-month membership, you can upgrade for R1071.
Disney+ is now available on most devices. This includes web browsers, iOS, Android, Android TV, Chromecast, LG WebOS and Samsung TVs. Sadly, at the time of writing, Disney+ has yet to launch on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. We don’t know when to expect the rollout of the app on these stores yet but this morning, it showed no sign of Disney+ on PS4, PS5 and Xbox consoles.
Signing up to Disney+ is simple. Unlike Netflix which relies on your email address and a password, Disney+ makes it super simple to sign up and even easier to sign in. All you need to do is head on over to the official site and enter your phone number which will then create an account for you.
You’ll then enter an email address for marketing and extra authentication but you probably won’t use it. Your phone number is now the gateway to Disney+. If you download the app on another device or TV, you’ll then sign in to these apps with the same number and use the pin code Disney sends you to authenticate your login.
In a way, this means you’ll never need to remember a password for Disney+. You just need your phone number. However, it does mean that if friends and family want to share your account, they will have to get the pin from you after entering your phone number… You can totally hold it for ransom if you want. I won’t judge.
Disney+ does feature the ability to create up to seven accounts on one membership with up to four active streams at any given time. You can also enjoy unlimited downloads on mobile devices for when loadshedding kicks in.
