Netflix Says Black Mirror Will Return in 2025 With USS Callister Sequel Episode

Netflix has announced that season 7 of Black Mirror will debut in 2025. The streaming service also confirmed that the upcoming season will include a sequel to one of the series’ most popular episodes, USS Callister.

The popular Star-Trek-inspired episode debuted during Black Mirror’s fourth season and starred Jesse Plemons as Captain Robert Daly, Cristin Milioti as Nanette Cole, Jimmi Simpson as Walton, Michaela Coel as Shania, and Billy Magnussen as Valdack.

Netflix confirmed that the new episode will focus on the rest of the USS Callister crew who survived at the end of the episode. Robert Daly is dead, of course.

Production on Black Mirror season 7 is currently underway. The streaming service says the show is targeting a 2025 premiere. Series creator Charlie Brooker returns as writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones.

Black Mirror season 8 will consist of six episodes. The only episode we know about right now is the USS Callister sequel. The remaining five episodes are being kept under wraps. The original season debuted on Netflix way back in 2011 and has gone on to win multiple awards including six Primetime Emmy Awards over its six seasons.

The USS Callister episode earned four Emmys in the Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or a Dramatic Special, Outstanding Television Movie, Outstanding Sound Editing, and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Limited Series or Movie categories. Season 3’s episode four “San Junipero,” won two Emmys for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or a Dramatic Special and Outstanding Television Movie.

Black Mirror season 6 debuted just last year. Catch up on the trailer below:
