Bandai Namco and developer Omega Force have announced that new DLC characters are coming to its action game, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4. Despite launching over three years ago, the game has been received positively by the community and continues to be played today thanks to it frequently going on sale on consoles and PC. While we don’t know the exact details of these downloadable characters, we can expect an announcement to take place on 22 July 2023.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 launched in March 2020 and mainly covered the main arcs from the anime and manga leading up to Wano, which contained a game-original ending. Using Musou-styled gameplay popularised by Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors series, Pirate Warriors 4 allowed players to control dozens of characters from the source material as they take on waves of enemies from marines to bandits and more.

The timing of this DLC announcement is pretty strange, according to fans. Since the Wano arc, new characters have been introduced that could fill the role of potential DLC characters. On the other hand, the anime is set to adapt Luffy’s long-awaited Gear 5 so it’s possible that we’ll see his next transformation as part of this new content. Other than that, we have no leads go on so we’ll just have to wait for this weekend to find out more.
The official synopsis for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 reads:
“The Pirate Warriors are back and bring with them a more explosive story, more environments and even crazier attacks in ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4. Follow Luffy and the Straw Hats from the beginning as they make their journey through different islands and onwards in the hopes of finding the illustrious treasure – the One Piece. Play through some of the most extraordinary islands and environments in the ONE PIECE story and take on memorable foes.”
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
