Last November, rumours surfaced claiming that Evil Dead and Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi would be helming Avengers: Secret Wars, the next big crossover event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Addressing these rumours in a recent interview, Raimi now claims that Marvel Studios hasn’t approached him yet about directing the next Avengers movie, though he hopes that they will.
Speaking in a WonderCon interview with ScreenGeek, Sam Raimi revealed how much he would like to work with Marvel again after his experience on the Doctor Strange sequel and the Spider-Man trilogy.
When pressed about his rumoured involvement in Avengers: Secret Wars, Raimi responded:
“I love 90% of the Marvel heroes that I’ve read in the great Stan Lee Marvel Universe comic books. I would love to work with Marvel again. They haven’t reasonably asked me to. I hope they had a good experience with me. They haven’t asked me yet. I hope they do.”
As of writing, Marvel Studios has yet to find a director to helm Avengers: Secret Wars. In fact, the MCU is going through a bit of a restructure at the moment, with Deadpool and Wolverine being the only MCU movie releasing this year.
The plot of Avengers: Secret Wars is being kept tightly under wraps for the time being, though going by the comic book source material, the MCU is still missing a vital ingredient in the story: Galactus. Reports from November 2023 claimed that actor Javier Bardem was in talks with Marvel and Disney to portray Galactus, though we’ve had no updates on that rumour since then.
In other news, Marvel Studios officially revealed the cast of its new Fantastic Four movie. It consists of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards alongside Mission: Impossible – Fallout and The Crown actress Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm. Joseph Quinn, who is best known for playing Eddie in season four of Stranger Things, has been cast as Johnny Storm along with The Punisher actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.
