Ubisoft Clarifies Assassin’s Creed Mirage ‘Real Gambling’ Controversy

Ubisoft claims that the Adults Only rating on the latest Assassin’s Creed Mirage content was a mistake. The company claims that even though the rating appeared during the Ubisoft Forward event reveal and all the pre-order listings, it wasn’t meant to be that way…

Yesterday, we reported that Assassin’s Creed Mirage was slapped with an “Adults Only” rating due to its supposed “real gambling” feature listed under its classification. The game includes intense violence, blood and gore, sexual themes, partial nudity, and real gambling according to listings.

Ubisoft claims that in fact, the game is still pending its rating and the Adults Only rating is a mistake. The developer says:

Following the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Mirage during Ubisoft Forward, some store pages mistakenly displayed the game for preorders with an Adults Only ESRB rating and are being fixed. While Assassin’s Creed Mirage is still pending rating, Ubisoft wants to reassure players that no real gambling or lootboxes are present in the game.

The publisher has yet to explain how the rating got into the official Ubisoft Forward live stream – a stream that was likely edited and viewed dozens of times before it debuted on Saturday evening.

The good news is that Assassin’s Creed Mirage won’t include loot boxes or any gambling. Well, according to Ubisoft anyway. We have heard this story countless times in the past and then a few months later when their game releases, it is littered with monetization.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to launch sometime in 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Catch up on all the Ubisoft Forward announcements here and our Assassin’s Creed Mirage preview here.
